Milton, D. E. (2012)
This classic 2012 article discusses the ontological status of Autism and other Neurodivergences. Milton questions the discourse surrounding Neurodivergence(s) as behavioural indicators and reserved for the field of cognitive-behaviouralism. Within the article he argues that inter-Neurotype interaction is the formation of a constantly reconstructed social reality, created through the agency of those engaged in the interaction. The article outlines the issues of interlocutor reciprocity and mutuality. Milton focuses on the term Double Empathy Problem to denote shared complications in inter-Neurotype communications, rather than a deficit in Neurodivergent communication.
