Neurodivergent people are often at risk of being excluded from community spaces due to lack of knowledge of Neurodivergence. This workshop works across Neurotypes to promote community and connection. Tailored to your communities needs, this workshop explores how shared activities such as craft (craftivism) and sharing resources (such as tea and biscuits) is an ideal way of building community and helping to spread important messages.
Each participant is guided through the creation of a piece of art that promotes their ideas of community. Through supported conversation being, belonging and existing in Neurodivergent mind-bodies is discussed. Participants are encouraged to talk to each other and the group as a whole to develop a micro-community during the session. This micro-community helps the participants to explore what is possible in their wider communities.
Participants are welcome regardless of if they wish to engage in crafts. Tea and biscuits, both physically and metaphorically, is open to anyone wishing to engage with the discussion. As such a range of tea and coffee and biscuits are supplied, including diabetic friendly, vegan and gluten-free. For those using craft supplies, participants are invited to create a piece related to building community. The crafts will be supplied to make an embroidered message that inspires community building. For those who may struggle to hold a standard sewing needle, larger kits using wool will be supplied.
The participants are given any materials they need to continue working on their craft piece. A resource pack will be created and given out to the participants at the end of the session.
