This short academic article reviews the Double Empathy Problem, 10 year since the term was first coined. The authors explore how the Double Empathy Problem has been used to critique issues in Autism studies, including Theory of Mind. The article outlines the ways in which multiple disciplines have used the Double Empathy Problem in their own fields. The authors discuss how research shows inter-Neurotype interactions often place Autistic interlocutors in a negative position. They conclude by stressing the socially situated nature of the Double Empathy Problem.
